What to expect

Visit Pompeii in half a day – saving hours of time compared with bus tours!

This half-day tour will depart from Termini Station in Rome, where you will meet your tour coordinator and receive your train tickets - let us take care of all seating arrangements, so that you can relax and enjoy your 1-hour trip to Naples. During the ride, enjoy the gorgeous scenery in the comfort of your air-conditioned, high-speed train.

Your local, expert guide will welcome you as soon as you arrive in Naples. Enjoy your short, exclusive private coach transfer to reach the excavation site of Pompeii where you will meet your official English-speaking guide. Here you will take part in a 2-hour fully guided tour of the ruins of the ancient city of Pompeii. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Pompeii is considered one of the most fascinating archaeological sites in the world. Here, time stopped in 79 AD, when Mt. Vesuvius covered people, streets and homes with ashes, capturing the lives of its inhabitants and the tragedy of that moment for eternity. Your guide will help you understand how the citizens lived prior to the eruption, and you will discover the ruins and death casts that have been preserved here for centuries.

You will also have the unique opportunity to explore the recently-opened Domus (homes of the ancient city’s most influential people) and after a short coffee break or local souvenir shopping, you will meet your driver who will accompany you back to Naples, who will stay with you until your departure to Rome on a high-speed train.

The coach will take you to the train station, where your English-speaking driver will take care of all arrangements to ensure that you have a comfortable, safe and relaxing trip back. You will have enough golden hours remaining to enjoy the rest of the day in the Eternal City.

What to remember

This tour involves a fair amount of walking; comfortable shoes are recommended.

Great experience Melanie was amazing!!! She was so knowledgeable and helpful to us throughout the tour. She helped us also plan our day for the following day, giving us tips and places to go and eat. Amazing We recently took the day trip tour to Vesuvius and Pompeii with City Wonders and we were extremely happy. Our most excellent guides were Antonina and Valentina, who were knowledgeable, very professional, English-fluent, and extremely pleasant and hard working for what was a long working day for them. We are dissapointed that the Italians have not seen fit to put in bathrooms at Vesuvius National Park despite charging entrance fees (but that is not the fault of your company)! Walking up Vesuvius was a scenic and historical thrill. Our guides did an excellent job of setting the expectations for getting to the top (or whatever) in the amount of time alloted, and this was VERY helpful. I was able to get to the top but if I was "prepared" to turn around without making the top because I knew how much time to allow. At Pompeii our local guide, Enrico, had dry wit and was spectacularly knowledgeable. Our bus driver, Carlo, was expert and safe - which we appreciated on those roads!! Again, thanks and appreciation to Antonina and Valentina who made our day pleasant and memorable. We would definitely recommend and book again.

Fantastic experience I booked this tour on a whim and John and Rob were our tag-team tour guides for the day. They were both EXCELLENT. The combination of energy, humour and in-depth local knowledge of the history and origins of the areas we passed, as well as Rome/Italy in general was fantastic. I'm a history buff myself and really appreciated the insights into the history and culture of the region, as well as the country as a whole. Rob was able to bring Roman culture to life with very insightful, witty commentary throughout the day. Both Rob and John were professionals and we had a fantastic time! Overall, fantastic experience.

Amazing Andy was great and enthusiastic. He made both the way to and back very fun and interesting. He had so many great stories to tell and also spoke very clear English. Andy had a fixed schedule in which he made sure it was followed and there was still enough time to get any souvenirs, if necessary. On the way back he made sure that we knew how to use the metro, where to find the best restaurants for food/desserts, and other important information that was needed to get around in Rome. He also made sure we knew how to report things, such as Taxis, if necessary. They also make sure you are aware of pocket pickers. I definitely recommend this tour with Andrew (Andy) your first day in Rome because of all the great information that is given. However, if not possible I recommend at anytime during your time in Rome. The trip in general both Mt. Vesuvius and Pompeii was Amazing! The views, history and everything else was to die for. I would love to do this again!
